Memorial incorporates beam from World Trade Center Towers

On Sunday, September 11, 2011, Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Central dedicated its memorial to 9-11, on the 10th anniversary of that event.  The memorial features a large steel beam from one of the fallen World Trade Center Towers.

The entire memorial, including the transport of the beam from New York, was donated by volunteers in the area. Radcliff native Samuel Young works in D.C. for the Terrorist Screening Center, which is in charge of these artifacts.  He was able to obtain the piece and received permission to have it brought here.  KDVA approved the donation and a host of private contributors have funded getting it here and erected.  Mercer Trucking from L-ville retrieved the beam and brought it here at no cost.  Koetter Construction built the pad at no cost.  Boomers Crane Service erected it at no cost.  Peter Zanetti, an engineer, designed it at no cost.

As KVCC Director Chuck Heater put it: "Just a slew of people who thought this is the right thing to do, how can I help, and by the way, it won’t cost you a thing.  Makes you proud to be an American."
