Benefits Paid to Kentucky Veterans

In Federal Fiscal Year 2006, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs spent more than $1.1 Billion on veterans and their families in Kentucky.

That total includes $595 million for Compensation and Pension, $403 million for medical care, $42 million on education, $18 million on insurance, and $15 million on program operating costs.

Expenditures in Kentucky by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs continue to increase even though Kentucky's veteran population is decreasing.

Between 1998 and 2006, the number of veterans in Kentucky dropped from 380,000 to 355,000, while the USDVA expenditures increased from $625 million to $1.1 billion.
