Federal benefits are available to veterans who want to attend colleges and universities in Kentucky.
The Louisville Regional Office of the federal VA is open 8 am to 6 pm Monday through Friday and 8 am to noon on Saturday until further notice to give out the advance checks. The office is located at 321 West Main Street in Louisville.

New Pat Tillman Scholarship Available at EKU
Eastern Kentucky University is one of 14 colleges and universities nationwide selected to participate in the Tillman Military Scholars Program for the 2012-13 academic year.
The program honors Pat Tillman, who left a successful professional football career to join the U.S. Army and who later died in combat in Afghanistan. Providing scholarships that cover tuition as well as other needs, such as housing and child care, the program supports the nation’s active and veteran servicemembers and their spouses by removing financial barriers to completing an academic degree.
Applications may be submitted to the Pat Tillman Foundation between February 13 and March 16.

As part of the 10-week program that meets once a week you'll learn from expert faculty and business experts how to get your ideas off the ground. You'll also receive up to $2,500 reimbursement for business startup costs, plus legal and accounting assistance.
This is no easy mission, but it can be the beginning of something very rewarding.

New John Keys Scholarship Application

The John Keys Scholarship Program provides educational assistance grants to honorably discharged U.S. Armed Services veterans who are legal residents of Kentucky AND to members of the Sons of The American Legion in Kentucky. The John Keys Scholarship was established in 1988 and has awarded more than 62 scholarship grants since 1995. Eligibility criteria and required documentation is detailed on the back side of the application. The amount of individual awards varies based on donations received and the recommendation of the Scholarship Review Committee.
The Scholarship is a program of the Kentucky Sons of The American Legion, administered by Independence Squadron 275 in northern Kentucky. The Scholarship is named in honor of John H. Keys of Covington, Kentucky, a Korean War veteran and American Legion member who died of cancer in 1990. The Sons of The American Legion (S.A.L.) is an affiliated organization of The American Legion, established in 1932 and composed of direct male descendants of Legionnaires and direct male descendants of deceased honorably discharged veterans of the U.S. Armed Services who served during wartime.
As noted on the form, applications are accepted on an ongoing basis year round; however, Scholarship grants are awarded twice a year and announced on May 1st and November 1st. Completed applications and required documentation must be mailed to the John Keys Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 18791, Erlanger, KY 41018-0791. The Scholarship Review Committee will be meeting in mid April 2012 to select winners to be announced on May 1, 2012. Applications received prior to April 7th, 2012 will be reviewed and considered at that meeting.
